Warm Home Discount

What is the Warm Home Discount Scheme?

Warm Home Discount is a ten year, government-led scheme that was introduced in 2011. It involves the government and electricity suppliers working together to offer extra support to people struggling to afford their energy.

For winter 2016 to 2017, customers could get up to £140 off their energy bill through the Warm Home Discount Scheme. The money is not paid directly to you-it’s a one-off discount on your energy bill between October and April.

Who is Eligible:

You qualify for the discount if on 10 July 2016 all the following applied:

  • your electricity supplier was part of the scheme
  • your name (or your partner’s) was on the bill
  • you were getting the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (even if you get Savings Credit as well)

Why is Iresa not part of the Warm Home Discount Scheme?

It is mandatory for energy companies that have over 250 000 customers to participate in the scheme.

At the present, Iresa has not attained that capacity and as such not obligated to participate in the scheme.

However, part of Iresa’s ethos is to provide customers with affordable electricity and gas and we do this by being one of the cheapest energy providers in the market, coupled with great customer services. We believe the cost savings that we pass on to our customers through our affordable prices means all customers, including those most vulnerable, will see huge savings off their energy bills.
